OUR STORY
1998 - BEGINNINGS
Our beginnings date back to the 1990s, when Mr. Murarilal Agarwal spearheaded Khatu Shyam Textiles, initially trading in the suiting and shirting sector. As times changed, he mastered the art of understanding ever-changing customer demands. And with that, he pivoted Khatu Shyam Textiles to trade in curtain fabric in 1998. He left no stone unturned, cementing Khatu Shyam’s presence in the curtain sector in Kalbadevi, the then-heart of the hustling and bustling cloth market of Mumbai.
1999 - SONS ENTER THE FRAY
As the business was picking up, Khatu Shyam expanded by opening a packing and distribution centre in Bhiwandi, Thane. This set about a whole new chapter, as Kalbadevi’s cloth market was slowly but surely getting saturated. 1999 marked a very crucial year as Mr. Murarilal was joined by his two sons – Ashok and Chandraprakash – in the pursuit to move the business to reach new heights. A new path was being carved in the home furnishing sector as they never let go of the zest to understand the tastes of their customers.
2010 - GROWTH BY PASSION
Khatu Shyam Textiles was now a family business, building a legacy. Operations were moved in its entirety to Bhiwandi in 2010. The market had changed over the years. But what didn’t change was the pride and passion. Mr. Murarilal Agarwal, now joined by his sons, served their customers with the highest quality of curtains. During this period, sales grew exponentially and Khatu Shyam’s customer base included some of India’s finest cloth merchants.
2018 - BALAJI TEXTILES IS BORN
Perhaps the most important year for the family business, as Khatu Shyam split into two halves. One came to be called Balaji Textiles, under the guidance of the younger son Mr. Ashok Agarwal. He hit the ground running, accumulating impressive numbers for the first few years of the business. But in 2020, the year of the COVID-19 pandemic which disrupted the lives of billions of people, made no exception to his business. Some changes had to be made and Mr. Ashok wasn’t shy to make those.
2021 - LAUNCH OF SHADECOR
With the age of interest ushering in and countless opportunities being made available, Balaji Textiles decided to catapult one step further by launching Shadecor. An exclusive brand of curtains that builds on the relentless pursuit of keeping abreast with the consumer’s tastes and choices and tailoring their offering accordingly. Accelerating by levering the affordances of the internet, while Shadecor promises a new era for Balaji Textiles, it also promises to stay true to the values and ethics Mr. Murarilal Agarwal proudly emanates.
